In 1961, two people with extraordinary vision opened a pet store on Chicago’s State Street. What was extraordinary about Co-Founders Bob Terese and Corinne Owen was that they employed twelve adults with developmental disabilities to wait on customers, manage inventory and care for the animals. In 1965, The Lambs moved to Libertyville, Illinois, when philanthropist W. Clement Stone donated his 70-acre farm for the program’s expansion.

The Lambs Farm Pet Shop is currently housed in a turn-of-the-century building that was one of the original barns used when the property was a working dairy farm. True to the beginnings of Lambs Farm, the Pet Shop employs people with developmental disabilities in a variety of jobs, from animal care to customer service.

Some people say you can’t buy love....but bringing home a new pet is probably as close to it as you will ever get. The Pet Shop of Lambs Farm offers cuddly puppies, adorable kittens, colorful birds, intriguing reptiles and entertaining small mammals. Our experienced and friendly staff can assist you in choosing just the right pet to welcome into your heart and home.

Lambs Pet Shop was founded on the premise of providing a loving and nurturing environment for both our puppies and the men and women with developmental disabilities who care for them. All of us who work at the Pet Shop get great joy and happiness from caring for the puppies while they are here at Lambs. Our puppies are healthy and happy due to the affectionate care and attention they are given on a daily basis. The puppies are well socialized and love people. They receive high quality food and vet care during their stay at Lambs. The Pet Shop exists only to provide meaningful work for the people we serve. We welcome you to stop in for a visit any day!
